Turning the page reveals a polka-dotted clown's shoe, with the purple square becoming the buckle ("Buckle my shoe"). Later, five diamonds and six stars become part of circus elephants' colorful blankets, and gatefold flaps close out the book, showcasing a singing, ice skating "good fat hen." Watching abstract images turn into concrete shapes should please toddlers, and the inclusion of the words and numerals for each number cements the concept. Up to age 3.
