Seated at a nearby table, reporter Nick Daniels is conducting a once-in-a-lifetime interview with a legendary baseball bad-boy. Shocked and shaken, he doesn't realize that he's accidentally captured a key piece of evidence. Ensnared in the city's most sensational crime in years, Nick investigates for a story of his own. Back off—or die—is the clear message as he closes in on the facts. Heedless, and perhaps in love, Nick endures humiliation, threats, violence, and worse in a thriller that overturns every expectation and finishes with the kind of flourish only James Patterson knows.

Patterson and Roughan explore the worlds of journalism, the Mob, and politics. They deserve kudos for understanding how journalists work--a quality that is rare among novelists. Magazine reporter Nick Daniels lands an exclusive interview with a reclusive disgraced baseball star. But before he can ask any questions in the fancy restaurant, a Mob lawyer is brutally murdered just feet away, and Daniels suddenly finds himself on the wrong side of a news story. Actor David Kelly takes the listener on a twisting, turning path through truth and lies as Daniels digs into the story in which he is the main player. Kelly's enthusiasm, flair for accents, and contagious excitement make DON'T BLINK the perfect cure for that long drive to the office. M.S. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine -

Patterson (www.jamespatterson.com) once again teams up with Roughan--after Sail (2008)--to deliver another page-turning thriller. Here, journalist Nick Daniels learns he's been granted the interview of a lifetime, with former Yankee pitcher Dwayne Robinson. Daniels arrives at Lombardo's Steak House ready to talk with the legendary player to discover the mystery behind his disappearance from the World Series when the murder of an infamous mob lawyer at the restaurant suddenly leaves Daniels in possession of a key piece of evidence. This story packs Patterson's typical punch, featuring plenty of action and plot twists. But though actor/narrator David Patrick Kelly keeps the rapid-fire plot moving expertly along, Daniels lacks the character depth of series favorites Alex Cross and Lindsey Boxer. Only for Patterson's devoted fans and those liking mafia thrillers. [The Little, Brown hc was a New York Times best seller.--Ed.]--Theresa Horn, St. Joseph Cty. P.L., South Bend, IN
