Originally published for adults in 1998 and adapted for children in 1999, this history of the U.S. (with some references to the larger world) includes many engaging primary voices. The full volume has been divided into three smaller books, perhaps to add accessibility, and here stripped of photographs and illustrations; the lack of pictorial materials undercuts the works' appeal.
