K-Gr 3-Everything about these books is captivating, from the large, clear, often double-page photographs of each animal, to the abundant captions and ice-enhanced fact inserts and text boxes on every page. In the first chapter of each title, readers are introduced to the creature in its icy habitat, often intent upon finding food. For example, Snowy Owls reads, "A pair of large, yellow eyes scans the snow-covered land. The eyes slowly blink and then fix on a small movement in the distance." Terms specific to each creature are in bold font and defined within the text as well as in the glossary. Each title includes a map that indicates where the creature lives. Though this is a series, each volume has a unique feel, depending on the creature being described. Children curious about how animals adapt to and survive in the Arctic will find themselves fascinated by these books.-Maggie Chase, Boise State University, ID
